Dear membership,

As you all know, we will award a Distinguished Service, Community Service and an Outstanding Student Award to deserving individuals at our annual conference. Additionally, two (2) individuals will be selected to receive SC-NABCJ Scholarships. The amount of each scholarship award is $500 and will be paid directly to the selected students to be applied towards tuition or other related academic expenses. All SC-NABCJ members are urged to participate in the process by nominating one or more individuals for an award. Applicant must be a full time student majoring in criminal justice or a related field. Active SC-NABCJ member(s), member’s spouse, or member’s dependent are encouraged to apply. Supporting documentation indicating acceptance at a college/university must be included with application packet along with narrative supporting/justifying scholarship need.

SC-NABCJ DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD:
•This award is given to an individual/organization who has demonstrated unselfish dedication and commitment to the field of criminal justice or to the community.

SC-NABCJ COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD:
•This award is given to an organization that has demonstrated unselfish dedication and commitment to the field of criminal justice or to the community.

•Nominee for the award may be involved in one or more of the following areas: employment, tutoring, mentoring and other volunteer activities for offenders and youth.

•Nominee can be a member or non-member of SC-NABCJ.

SC-NABCJ OUTSTANDING STUDENT AWARD:
•This award is intended to recognize a criminal justice student who has demonstrated leadership, dedication, and contribution to a NABCJ Student Chapter.

•Nominee must be a full-time student majoring in criminal justice or related fields and an active member of a NABCJ Student Chapter.

•Recipient will be matched with a mentor and may be required to do volunteer work or an internship for SC-NABCJ.

SC-NABCJ EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
The South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice Educational Scholarship Program is designed to provide financial assistance to qualified applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence and financial need.

PURPOSE: The SC-NABCJ Educational Scholarship Program is designed to provide financial assistance to qualified applicants who are seeking an academic degree in Criminal Justice or related social science field at an accredited college or university.

AWARD: Two (2) individuals will be selected yearly to receive SC-NABCJ Scholarships. The amount of each scholarship award is $500 and will be paid directly to the selected students to be applied towards tuition or other related academic expenses. The award must be used within one year of acceptance. Any previous SC-NABCJ award recipients must wait three (3) years to re-apply. Successful recipients will be notified via telephone and in writing.

All required application materials must be completed and forwarded to the Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

•Applicant must be a full time student majoring in criminal justice or a related field. Active SC-NABCJ member(s), member’s spouse, or member’s dependent are encouraged to apply. Supporting documentation indicating acceptance at a college/university must be included with application packet along with narrative supporting/justifying scholarship need.

•Applicant must be presently enrolled full-time or have been accepted for full-time enrollment at an accredited college or university and pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, technical, or vocational degree in Criminal Justice or related social science field.

•Applicant must have a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) either upon high school graduation or at the end of the previous academic year (if enrolled in college) at the time of scholarship application and/or award). A current, official high school or college academic transcript must be submitted with scholarship application.

•Applicant must be planning to pursue or is currently actively pursuing a career in Criminal Justice or related social science field of employment.

•Applicant must include with application a typed essay (up to 100 words) stating his/her reasons for requesting this scholarship. Also, include any facts that should be considered, particularly those that establish financial need. The applicant’s essay/narrative must provide relevant information concerning educational objectives and future career plans.
