Census Party Crawl
Columbia, SC – The City of Columbia Census Committee (CCCC) is collective/convening of trusted community leaders who work to ensure that there is a complete and accurate representation of the city’s population on the 2020 Census. To encourage community participation in The Census and adapt outreach efforts in response to COVID-19, the CCCC, is sponsoring a Census Party Crawl on April 24th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. live on Instagram. Mayor Steve Benjamin will host the event and be joined by special guests throughout the night.
Currently, the City of Columbia sits below a 50% self-response rate on the 2020 Census. According to the Counting for Dollars study done by George Washington University, the Census brings in “$800 billion annually in federal assistance to states, localities, and families; and to guide community decision-making affecting schools, housing, health care services, business investment, and much more. These functions depend on a fair and accurate census.”
The committee invites community members to join them on Instagram live to party with a purpose and encourage greater participation on the 2020 Census from the safety of their homes. The event will also be a time to celebrate the resiliency of the City of Columbia through dance and music. Each hour will feature a different DJ from the community, guaranteed to make this a fun night with musical hits spanning decades.
7-8 p.m. Preach Jacobs @PreachJacobs
8-9 p.m. DJ Prettyboy Mell @djprettyboymell
9-10 p.m. DJ Loui Vee @louiveemydj
The City of Columbia Census committee is composed of local government and community leaders or organizations. In this role they serve as local “census ambassadors” that seek to increase awareness and motivate residents to respond to the 2020 Census.
